Farsley Farfield Primary School

Headteacher blog January 6th 2023

We have had a wonderful first few days back. Teachers enjoyed training on Tuesday, spending the day working on the music and computing curricula. On Wednesday evening, 50 older children attended the ballet at Leeds Grand Theatre as part of Show Time club and on Thursday KS2 enjoyed a free concert of high-quality baroque music with violin and a theorbo. Many thanks to Artforms for supporting us with this.

As part of the KS2 music assembly, our Music lead Ms Howells referred to the crowd of children as musicians themselves. This follows a number of events last term where the children were performing: Y3s learning African Drumming, Year 4s ‘BoomWhacking’, all the children performing in Christmas Shows with band accompaniment and our samba band playing at Farsley Lights. We have over 80 children in KS2 learning instruments such as guitars, keyboards and violin and a large proportion of Y2s learning the recorder. Performance is also a big part of the general class music lessons, and the children will be composing more following the teacher training this week, often using a music app on their Chromebooks to support this. Many thanks to the PTA for recently purchasing us a new class set of glockenspiels.

Music is certainly alive at Farfield!
