Head teacher blog 9th May 2014

The school is getting ready for annual tests and there is plenty of good progress evident. This assessment needs to be managed carefully and sensitively: children need to be supported and encouraged to perform to their best whilst at the same time ensuring that the curriculum remains broad and the children aren’t put under too much pressure. The move to ‘Performance Related Pay’ for teachers does not help in this regard.

One of the things that has particularly pleased me this week has been the way that staff and families are responding to the new class and year-group blogs. I have been particularly impressed by Y1 blog postings this week and the extent of the ‘comments’ by parents and carers in that year group. This week we have also been excited by on-going developments in the Foundation Stage outdoor learning area which should be completed by June. Yesterday, we were interviewing all day and we are delighted to have been able to appoint two talented new teachers to the school to take us forward from September.
