Farsley Farfield Primary School

Year 6 23.2.24

Welcome back to Spring 2 and another fun-filled half term of learning.

As we approach SATS in May, we are starting now to prepare children for the exams with more lessons focusing on exam technique and more exposure to the sorts of questions the children may be asked in the exams. As a reminder, the dates for the Key Stage 2 SATs are below:

English

On Monday, Year 6 were appalled to receive a letter from Mr Harris which explained to them that because of the importance of the SATS tests he was considering extending the school day from 7:30-5:30 and even introducing a Saturday school. There was uproar as the letter was read out and immediately the children decided they wanted the right of reply. Both classes have spent this week working on a letter to persuade Mr Harris that his suggestion is not one of his best ideas. You’ll be relieved to know that the letter was, of course, fake but the outrage was real! Have a look at some of the brilliant examples in the folder below. We are sure that if Mr Harris ever considered extending the school day that these letters would make him reconsider.

Science

We have finished our unit on evolution this week with some interesting lessons on fossils and what they can teach us and by researching the life and work of the scientist Charles Darwin. The children produced some beautiful and interesting double-paged spreads which you can see in the folder below:

Production songs

This year our production will be Pirates of the Curry Bean and it is quite a wordy script! We have decided to introduce the songs for the production for our music unit this half term so that the children can crack straight on with learning the words after their exams in May. Have a look at the playlist below if you’d like to hear a sneak peak of the treat you’re in for in Summer.
