Christmas jumpers!
Maths
This week, 3CW started their new multiplication and division units. 3CW have looked at arrays, focusing on the difference between columns and rows and working out the groups they can see. Children wrote addition and multiplication sentences to match the arrays. 3B have been learning about the multiples of 3 and represented calculations from the 3 times tables using a bar model, counters, and a written word problem. Maths homework is consolidating their understanding of arrays this week. Children should use TT Rockstar to support their recall of the times tables.
English
This week, Year 3 enjoyed using their understanding of expanded noun phrases and abstract nouns to write a setting description of the place Leon travelled to, the Place Between. The children used pictures, shared ideas in class, and wrote from a first-person perspective to write beautiful descriptions. Leon enjoyed travelling through the midnight sky on a carpet with tassels as he travelled past the portal of wonder! We will continue with them next week, and the children are super excited to edit and write up a beautiful copy to take home!
3CW visit the Synagogue
Thursday morning, 3CW visited the synagogue and enjoyed learning more about the significance of different artefacts and the synagogue. The children moved in a carousel motion and enjoyed sharing facts about Shabbat and learning about an Orthodox synagogue. Thank you to all parent volunteers who supported us with this trip; we hope you had a lovely time. Both classes represented our school very well.
Science
This week was all about shadows! We recapped our understanding of how light travels and mirrors work, leading us into a conversation about shadows and what they are. We learned about the difference between transparent, translucent, and opaque, and the children chose a selection of times to create a shadow. Children could recognise a shadow but weren’t entirely aware that they wouldn’t be able to see every detail. They loved moving around with the torch and seeing how the size and shape of a shadow might change!
P.E
Here are some pictures of 3B in gymnastics this week. The children used the apparatus sensibly and enjoyed practising jumps and stretches in different ways.
Why not visit Yorkshire?
Year 3 loved sharing what they were doing in Yorkshire this week. The children learned more about Yorkshire’s physical characteristics and collaborated to locate River Ouse, Wharf, and Aire. We spoke about the land in detail and continued to work in pairs to find the Yorkshire Dales; some children in Year 3 have climbed parts of different dales, and this was then mentioned when they had to get into the role of being Yorkshire to try and persuade others to come and visit! They were very thoughtful and mentioned greenery and not to litter on their precious land. Children shared that you can have the opportunity to hike, see the longest river in Yorkshire, and have an enjoyable time in Leeds and York visiting various museums!
PSHE
This week, 3B discussed ways to prevent bullying and what they could do to help. Children discussed what a bystander is and worked together through a conscious alley sharing the voice of a bystander and the feelings of a victim. The children created posters sharing what bullying is, what it can look like, and what to do if you or a friend is being bullied.
3CW worked together discussing a range of emotions and children considered their mind as a pond and their feelings as a fish. Calming strategies were shared for dealing with overwhelming feelings and how we can be the calmness of the pond in this situation.
