Year 4 News – 16.10.26

Maths

In maths this week, we have been practising our methods for column addition and subtraction, including where one or more exchange is required. Having a good understanding of these methods is really helpful when calculating and problem solving in all areas of maths. These videos explain how to use the methods, and might be useful for children to watch at home if they would like to do some extra practice:

Adding two 4-digit numbers – one exchange

Subtracting two 4-digit numbers – one exchange

English

In English this week we have been learning how to use subordinate clauses and commas, and applying these skills when writing from different perspectives. So far, we have written from the perspective of Chulak from the Firework Maker’s Daughter. Next week we will be thinking from the viewpoint of Hamlet (the elephant) and Lalchand (Lila’s dad). It has been great to see the children thinking really carefully about the quality of their sentences, as well as sharing some imaginative ideas!

Science

In science, both classes had fun investigating conductors and insulators when creating electrical circuits.

French

In French, we are finishing off our unit on presenting ourselves. The children have done really well with trying to have longer conversations with a partner. Here are a few videos we managed to get of some children (in role as different characters) introducing themselves and asking questions.

We are looking forward to seeing lots of you at our parents’ evenings next week.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Mrs Sykes, Miss Levett and Mrs Whale
