This week was packed with excitement as we took a trip to the Bradford Alhambra to watch the enchanting performance of Pinocchio. The children thoroughly enjoyed the show, and it was wonderful to see their smiles and hear their laughter. They all represented our school in a wonderful way and we were really proud of them all!
English
In English, we explored the interesting world of direct speech and the role of speech marks. The children learned that speech marks should go only around the spoken words, and we also introduced how to use punctuation such as ?, !, and . in speech sentences.
To make learning fun, we:
Used coloured pencils to add speech marks to a piece of text.
Created imaginative conversations between the wolf and the pigs, which led to some very entertaining dialogue!
Using more creative words to replace the word ‘said’ – Said is dead!
Maths
In Maths, 3CW dove into the 8 times table focusing on using our knowledge of grouping and sharing to work out problems. We also practised counting in multiples and starting to build up recall of the 8x table. Take a look at the video we have been enjoying when building up our fluency when counting in multiples of 8.
3B have been working on multiplying two digit numbers by one digit numbers with and without exchange, using the part whole model.
PE
This week, 3CW had the hall to themselves on Wednesday and began our new unit on Fundamental Movement Skills. The children explored different ways to move around the hall, including running, side stepping, lunges, and jumping, before engaging in relay games. The session ended with a lovely dance lesson led by Lily. She encouraged the children to use alliteration to create unique names for themselves, paired with a matching action. Ask your child if they remember theirs!

History
In History, we explored the significance of the River Nile in Ancient Egypt and why it was so essential to their civilisation. After reflecting on our previous learning about rivers, we examined Egypt’s desert environment and discussed why people relied on the river for survival. We uncovered how the Nile played a vital role in trading, agriculture, and building relationships with others.
The children created beautiful double-page spreads, labeling the Nile’s key locations and highlighting its importance for food, trade, and community. As part of the lesson, the children sampled some Egyptian-inspired foods, including bread, cucumber, grape juice, and cheese, bringing history to life in a delicious way!

Science
Unfortunately, 3CW had to sacrifice their science lesson this week to attend their trip, but 3B enjoyed their second lesson on forces. The children explored magnets, learning about their two poles and what makes an object magnetic.
The session began with a discussion on predictions, where the children guessed which objects would be magnetic. They then tested their ideas, ensuring a fair test by using the same magnet for all items.
Afterward, they wrote conclusions about their findings, discovering that while objects need to be metal to be magnetic, not all metals are magnetic. For an extra challenge, some children used Chromebooks to investigate why certain UK coins are magnetic while others are not, using resources from the Royal Mint website.

PSHE
Our first PSHE lesson of the term focused on celebrating achievements and setting personal goals. The children reflected on their successes so far, such as learning to read, riding a bike, or swimming a length.
After illustrating these achievements on a timeline, they discussed how they overcame challenges and the emotions they experienced along the way. In groups, the children tackled a practical challenge, pausing to reflect on their roles and approaches—whether they were leaders, thinkers, or motivators.
