It was an absolute pleasure covering an absent colleague on Tuesday, leading a group of twenty immaculately-behaved and motivated Year 5 children for an afternoon of coding using an application called Scratch. Children in Years 4-6 have two full afternoons of coding each half term and it is a really good amount of time to spend drafting algorithms and problem-solving. It was easy to pick up this lesson from Mrs Carney’s detailed planning, and we are fortunate to have Lucie leading this area of the curriculum with such expertise and enthusiasm. Next half term, we are going to be joined again by volunteers from Lloyds Bank who will join Mrs Carney and will bring further value and personal attention to these computing sessions.

Today, both Reception classes have enjoyed a trip to Blackhills Woods: this venue is now a very well-established part of our infant programme, providing a superb, private woodland space with toilets and indoor spaces available. Some children in Year 4 have also been to Fanwoods Activity Centre today to support our Outdoor and Adventurous Activities curriculum. Both these venues are owned by the Scouts and are a great resource to enhance our curriculum.

Finally, I would like to wish all our Sikh and Hindu families Happy Diwali!
