It’s great to be back for another academic year at Farsley Farfield: my 22nd year as head here! It remains exciting to see new children and families, and to tease the older children with ‘you’re not Y3 already..’ type comments. It has been great to welcome new teachers to school: a new deputy head/SENDco Helen Smith and new class teachers Kate Midwood and James Nehaul. It is especially exciting to welcome new teacher Jessica Hardwick as she begins her teaching career. This first year or two is so important… Everyone has made a great start.

On Thursday evening we took over 50 children to see War Horse at the Leeds Grand Theatre. (This was the final trip of last year’s Show Time club.) For the first time, we took Y7s that had left our school in July. It was great to see them all again – they were certainly excited to see their old friends. It was a superb final show for the club: poignant, exciting and briliantly staged. This year’s programme is being drawn up and we already have our tickets for Matilda!

The new Y3s were especially excited to be with the animals at lunchtimes: feeding chickens on the top field or throwing windfall apples for the pigs. We also fed the pigs some freshly cut grass from the meadow area. There may be some new animals on the farm before the end of the month. Watch this space…
