Editing Electric Explanations!
English
This week, the children in both classes have been hard at work finishing off their firework explanations. Once they had finished their first drafts, the children then had to go back through them with an editor’s eye to find ways that they could be improved, whether that was by catching little errors in spelling and punctuation or making more significant changes by adding new details or removing unnecessary sections. The final step was then to publish the finished, fully edited version using Google Docs. The children all did really well with this and we have shared some great examples below!
Science
In our science lessons this week, we have been exploring how different switches work. We began by drawing from our own knowledge to identfy examples of switches that we interract with on a daily basis and the children in both classes came up with some fantastic examples. We then tried to connect simple button switches into our circuits to understand what actually happens when a switch is used. We found that using the analogy of a gate was helpful in developing our understanding – when the gate is closed, the circuit is complete and the electricity can flow but when the gate is open, the circuit is broken. Once we understood this, we decided to try making some switches of our own using everyday objects such as split pins and paperclips (and some children even came up with their own unique designs)!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
