Time, Theories and Travelling!

Maths
This week in maths, we have been continuing with our learning on time. Children have been working hard to understand time past and to the next hour. Our focus this week was on 5-minute and minute intervals. Children used clock faces to name and recognise different times. They then moved on to learning more about what time looks like digitally and using AM and PM, which was lots of fun. Have a look at the video below to recap telling the time to the minute.

Varjak is Outside!
This week, we have enjoyed reading more chapters of Varjak Paw, and he has now made it outside! Children wrote down their feelings he might have as well before moving on to planning what Varjak can see now that he is Outside and has made it to the top of the wall. Using their plans, children wrote in the role of Varjak. What will happen next? We’re looking forward to finding out!

History
This week, our young historians in Year 3 stepped back in time to explore the thrilling story of the Celtic warrior queen, Boudicca! Working collaboratively, the children were given the main events of her famous rebellion against the Romans, but there was a catch – the story was completely jumbled! Using their brilliant sequencing and teamwork skills, the groups worked together to piece the timeline back together. They were then presented with different theories about the queen’s fate and enjoyed discussing what they believed happened with reason.

French
Year 3 are enjoying their new unit, all about different ice creams. This week, they have learned 5 more flavours and have enjoyed sharing this with their friends.

KS2 Art Competition
All children in KS2 have been invited to take part in an optional art competition to give them the opportunity to discover their inner artists! The theme of the competition is ‘Farsley through my eyes’. This means that their artwork should link to Farsley in some way, whether it’s their street, significant buildings, Sunnybank Mills, the history of Farsley, or even a happy memory. Anything goes, as long as they can explain the link! The children can create any style of artwork they wish, such as sculpture, collage, painting or even photography! The deadline for entries is Monday 29th June with winners announced on Friday 3rd July in Special Mention assembly. Entries should be labelled with the child’s name and class and given to Mrs Kenvyn. We are so excited to see what amazing creations the children can come up with!
