Year 2 News 08.05.26
It’s been a short but busy week in year two!
English
In English we have learned more about the objects people used in the 1960s. We talked about telephones, typewriters, cameras and record players. We have started to think about what we use nowadays instead.
Next week we will be writing about gadgets that we use in 2026.
Spellings
We have looked at two different ways to spell the or sound this week: al (walk, wall) and ar after w (warm, wardrobe)
Maths
In maths this week we learned that 2/4 is the same as 1/2. We have also learned about 3/4.
Science
We have set up some window greenhouses to find out if seeds will germinate with light and water but not soil. Perhaps you could try this at home too! All you need is a zip lock bag, wet paper towel and some seeds…..

DT
We have practised some sewing skills this week, learning how to do the running stitch and over stitch to join two pieces of fabric together. Most children found this quite tricky!

Asking Questions about the 1960s
This week year 2 had the chance to interview Mrs Midwood’s parents who grew up in the 1960s. Children had prepared some questions and enjoyed talking to our visitors and looking at some of the 1960s artefacts they had brought with them.

Children have also produced some wonderful homework on this topic and many have been eager to tell us about the conversations they have had with their own grandparents. Thank you for all your support with this.
1960s Fashion
Do we have a future fashion designer in year 2? Take a look at these 1960s inspired outfit designs and see what you think!
