DT

We have come to the end of our history work on WW1 and this week, the children have linked this to our DT unit and created some INCREDIBLE ‘shoe box trenches.’ They were tasked with including some important features of the trenches: duckboards, a dug out, barbed wire and a firing step. Children had to work together and communicate clearly using the given resources to make simple structures. We are so impressed by their work!

Here are some photos of our process and some of the finished creations.

Finished Trench Gallery

Because we are so thrilled by the work, we would love the opportunity to share this with you. We will be holding a ‘Trench Gallery’ in 6D on Tuesday 24th February immediately after school at 3:30-3:45. You’d be welcome to take home the trench that your child made at this time (if they have agreed this with their partner!) If you would like to attend, please pick up your child at the normal door and then come and sign in at the office.

Children’s Mental Health Week

It has been children’s mental health week this week and we have looked in detail at the theme ‘A place we belong.’ Year 6 took part in a live assembly on Wednesday where we met author Katie Hopper who read from her book Sylvia’s Candle.

As part of our PSHE work, we have also looked at belonging this week in the form of immigration and refugees. Children were very empathetic and able to identify many of the challenges that new arrivals to another country may face and we watched a fantastic video which shows just how incredible our world can be if we take the time to celebrate the different qualities we can share with each other.
