Farsley Farfield Primary School

Sun, Science and Shape!

It’s been a jam packed week of learning even with the heatwave!

Maths
This week, we have completed our unit on time and started our unit on shape. Children enjoyed learning about right angles and searching classroom for examples. They then moved onto learning about acute and obtuse angles and comparing them to right angles. We ended the week learning all about lines! Horizontal and vertical lines were quite easy for children to recognise and there were plenty of examples in school. Parallel and perpendicular lines were a bit more challenging. Children could understand that perpendicular lines meet but couldn’t always identify whether they met at a right angle. We will be continuing with this next week. We will be doing some more work on times tables next week. Children should continue to practise their recall using TT Rockstar.

English
Year 3 have had a very busy week writing about street and domestic cats! Using a catchy title, an introduction and subheadings, children wrote down key facts about both cat’s appearance, diet and habitat.

Science Superstars
On Thursday afternoon, Year 3 enjoyed watching and performing science experiments! All the children who took part did brilliantly and spoke with lots of excitement! We were so impressed with their courage to share their ideas in front of everyone, and explain the science. We had experiments involving lava, bubbles, bricks and lots of water! Well done to everyone who took part!

The Sound Collector – Roger McGough

A stranger called this morning
Dressed all in black and grey
Put every sound into a bag
And carried them away

The whistling of the kettle
The turning of the lock
The purring of the kitten
The ticking of the clock

The popping of the toaster
The crunching of the flakes
When you spread the marmalade
The scraping noise it makes

The hissing of the frying pan
The ticking of the grill
The bubbling of the bathtub
As it starts to fill

The drumming of the raindrops
On the windowpane
When you do the washing-up
The gurgle of the drain

The crying of the baby
The squeaking of the chair
The swishing of the curtain
The creaking of the stair

A stranger called this morning
He didn’t leave his name

Left us only silence
Life will never be the same
