Year 1 News – 26.6.26

English

In English, we have been enjoying lots of poems about the seaside. We have chosen a poem written by Nicola Davies and started to practise as a class to perform at the whole school poetry slam in the next couple of weeks.

The children have enjoyed creating their own poetry about the seaside and performing it to the class.

Maths

In maths we have finished our topic on place value to 100 and jumped straight into money! The children had a brilliant time exploring and comparing the values of different coins.

Science

In science, we’ve been busy classifying animals. The children did a fantastic job sorting different creatures into four main groups: mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and fish.

History

We’ve been busy investigating how beach trips have changed over time. The children did a brilliant job sorting similarities and differences into a ‘Past, Both, and Now’ table.

To top off a great week of learning, everyone loved keeping cool and making a splash in our outdoor beach provision!

Computing

We continued our work on pictograms this week using Purple Mash. After making a class pictogram about our favourite fruits, the children did a fantastic job collecting their own data to create their very own digital pictograms!

Sports Day

The children are busy practising the races ready for sports day on Wednesday 8th July. Our races will be in the morning. More details will be shared soon.

Science Competition and Animal Workshop

Next Wednesday is going to be an exciting day! In the morning, we have our animal workshop with Lion Learners and in the afternoon it is our class auditions for the science competition. Thank you to everyone who has paid £3.62 for the workshop.

Homework and Reading

The children have brought home their last learning log homework in Year 1. This is due in on Tuesday 7th July. Please keep hearing your child read four times each week and write a comment in their reading record.

Have a super weekend.
