Year 2 News 5.6.26
The Bog Baby
We have started the half term with a whimsical woodland story about two children who take home a rather unusual wild animal. This week we have been collecting expanded noun phrases to describe the woods and their features and talking about prepositions (words like under, over and next to that tell us the location of something).
We enjoyed some hot seating too. The children asked the two girls in the story some really interesting questions.

To support us with writing our own descriptions, we played eye spy. We looked at all the different features before thinking of our expanded noun phrases. Finally, we looked at some good examples and picked out our favourite expanded noun phrases and prepositions. We talked about how a good description helps the reader to picture the setting in their heads.

In art we studied the illustrations, taking notice of the lines and patterns and talking about perspective. Take a look at some of the artwork in progress.

Spelling
This week we have been looking at words ending in -al. We remembered the previous spellings we learned: le and el.
Statistics
We have enjoyed learning about different ways to represent data this week including on tally charts, tables, block diagrams and pictograms.
Using tallies was new for some of us. We talked about doing our own traffic surveys, to count the vehicle types going past. Perhaps this is something some children would like to do at home.

PSHE
This week we started our unit on Boys, Girls and Families. We made boy/girl groups and talked about things we have in common and differences too.
