Reception news – 22.5.26

It may have been a short term but it has been a busy one!

Phonics

This week we have been looking at words which end in er and est. We have looked at words such as big, bigger, biggest, long, longer, longest.

Please keep hearing your child read. It is so important to keep practicing sounding out and blending. Can you help your child to read the sentence once they have decoded it? This helps with fluency. Can you read all the hard to read and spell words?

Maths

This week the children have explored the concept of sharing using counters. They have used 2 or 3 paper plates to make equal groups. The children have also grouped objects into groups of 2,3 and 4. We have enjoyed singing a song all about odd numbers. Can your child explain what an odd number is?

Understanding the World – RE

Over the last couple of weeks, we have looked at how Christians and Muslims are taught about the Golden Rule, treat others like you want to be treated yourself. We listened to the story The Lost Sheep from the Bible and The Prophet and the Ants from the Quran, and we learned that everybody and every living thing is equally important and worth caring for.

PE

We finished our unit on cooperation this week. The children did a great job when passing a ball over their heads and through their legs, and they worked incredibly well as pairs when being wizards and rabbits.

Stockeld Park

Letters for the last school trip for Reception children have gone out. It is a new trip and a fantastic day out. We will of course need some parent volunteers. Please email us at andrea.tomlinson@farsleyfarfield.org.uk (RPT class) or hannah.kumar@farsleyfarfield.org.uk (RKT class) if you can offer your support.

Everything else…

Have a wonderful half term. We would like to wish all our Muslim families a wonderful Eid al Adha.

The Reception team.
