Farsley Farfield Primary School

Headteacher blog 10th October 2025

What a week! We have had an exciting time with Greek Day in Y5 and Stone Age Day in Y3 followed by a huge Harvest Assembly with parents and carers on Friday. The Harvest Festival included a great display of produce from the school farm and we pressed apple juice, tasted Farfield honey and had a biggest pumpkin competition. WIlliam in Y2 did well as the ‘strong man’ lifting the pumpkins impressively. Two things went wrong: those pesky vegetables were back telling jokes and we were having so much fun we forgot to take any photos of the actual event. Most of the produce was taken by families afterwards and the rest will be on a stall tonight. Thank you also for the generous donations of packets and tins that will go to support St George’s Crypt’s work with the homeless.

Later this afternoon we will welcome Rachel Reeves MP (The Chancellor of the Exchequer and our local MP) to the infant site to meet with Pudsey headteachers. I don’t envy her the role as she tries to balance competing demands. What is without doubt, however, is that we are in a crisis as regards demand and expenditure to meet SEND needs and that issue is bound to be raised. I might even manage to speak to her about the children’s centre that is slated to close and about our ‘split site’ that is not recognised as a split site in terms of funding.
