The Gingerbread Man

We started the week by enjoying the traditional tale ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We used the reading dogs to answer some questions about the text.

We enjoyed the story so much that we decided to bake our very own gingerbread men!

We baked an extra special class gingerbread man but when we returned to school on Tuesday he had disappeared! We decided to make some missing posters and put them up around school to see if anyone had seen him.

On Thursday, we received a postcard from the Gingerbread Man. He had managed to make it to Leeds and Bolton Abbey. On Friday, he was exploring the Yorkshire Dales!

Punctuation

We looked at the difference between a full stop, exclamation mark and question mark. We discussed when we would use each piece of punctuation and played a punctuation quiz! We then worked in small groups to sort some statements based on what piece of punctuation was needed.

Maths

In maths this week we have been looking at equal groups. We started the week by recognising and making equal groups. We then used repeated addition to add equal groups together.

Geography

We started the lesson by recapping the 7 continents. Can your child name all 7 continents? We then learnt that over 70% of the earth is water and that this water is split up into 5 parts. We call these the 5 oceans. We named and located the 5 oceans on a world map.

We have really enjoyed watching this song.

Science

In science we discussed the enquiry question ‘What plants can we find around our school?’. We looked at the differences between wild and garden plants and then had a look around our school grounds to see if we could spot any. When we returned to class, we all chose a plant to draw.

Computing

We started a new Purple Mash unit on animated story. This week we all created a character for our e-books. We will continue with our books next week.

PE

1T had their first gymnastics session with our coach Miss Lily. 1B will enjoy these sessions next half term. The children learned about different shapes in gymnastics and then made up their own sequence of shapes in pairs.

Have a lovely long weekend,
