Seeds, subtraction and survivors!
Maths
We started a new unit this week, all about money. Children were familiar with some of the coins and enjoyed sharing what they knew with their partners. Children worked out different values and converted pounds and pence quite well. We then spent the rest of the week using our knowledge of money and the column method to add and subtract money and answer reasoning and problem solving questions focused on money. We ended the week with children using both adding and subtracting skills to work out change.
Vesuvius vomits
We have reached the end of our unit on ‘Escape from Pompeii,’ and the children have loved learning about the eruption. Working collaboratively this week, they wrote brilliant newspaper reports drawing on their plans from last week. Their reports included key features such as a headline, date, introduction, main body and witness statements.
Science
How are seeds dispersed? This week, we enjoyed learning about the different ways that seeds travel. Children wrote down their thoughts on why seed dispersal is important for plant survival and drew and labelled different pictures to help them remember the different ways.
Computing
Our unit this term has been all about Google Slides, and children have enjoyed working out how to create a new presentation and include different fonts, images and themes. Using their skills, they were set a project ‘all about me!’ This included adding slides about their favourite food and animals, amongst other things. Maybe they might create one all about the half term!
Royal Armouries
We have sent out a letter about an exciting trip to the Royal Armouries. 3B will be visiting on Wednesday, 3rd June, and 3BK will be visiting on Friday, 19th June. Parents and carers can make a payment towards our trip on Parent Pay. We need one volunteer for each class. If you can support us, please get in touch with the class teacher. If there are many volunteers, we will pick one at random!
Science competition
We will be having a school science competition in the second half of summer term. We can’t wait to see what children come up with!
