Happy New Year!
We hope you all enjoyed the break and that those celebrating had a happy Christmas. Year 2 seem raring to go this term after two weeks off!
George’s Marvellous Medicine
This week we have begun our new class text- George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. The children have been at once enthralled and disgusted by George’s terrifying, earwig chomping Grandma and have been full of ideas about what might happen next in the text.
We have used the class text in our reading sessions, with our reading dogs Predicting Pip, Rex Retriever and Vocabulary Victor posing questions about what we have read. We have also been working on a character description of Grandma, starting by collecting descriptive words and phrases about her personality and looks.

Maths
We have finished our unit on shape this week with a lesson on sorting shapes and another on shape patterns. Once Mathletics is up and running again, you can complete the Shape activities. Next week we start our new unit on ‘Money’. Please see this week’s homework.
Who is Florence Nightingale?
Upon the discovery of a mysterious case, year two turned history detectives and looked for clues about who the bag and its contents might have belonged to. We discovered that it belonged to Florence Nightingale and the children derived that she had lived long ago, before electricity and had been keen to keep things clean. Children went on to make further predictions about who she was and why she is remembered today.
