Year 1 News – 28.11.25

English

In our English lessons, the children have written a recount of our trip to Temple Newsam. They did a fantastic job of using time connectives such as first, next, then, after that and finally in their writing.

Phonics

We have continued to revise all the phonemes that we have learnt so far. Please keep practising them at home.

Maths

We have continued our work on addition. The children are adding with more confidence.

Design Technology

The children have really enjoyed designing and making a fire engine.

We started by looking at the key parts of a fire engine and then drew and labelled what we wanted our fire engine to look like.

After this, we selected our box to act as the cab and body of the vehicle and either painted or wrapped it.

We then spent time decorating our vehicles. We added windows, doors, sirens, lights, ladders and hoses.

We wanted our fire engines to be able to move. We learnt that vehicles move by using wheels on an axle. The axle is secured onto the chassis of a vehicle using an axle holder. We used a hacksaw to cut our axles to the correct length.

Our finished fire engines looked amazing!

PSHE

In PSHE we discussed who we could ask for help if we did not feel safe. We then sorted real and imaginary dangers into groups. We spoke about how these things can make us feel.

We then spoke about secrets. We discussed how some secrets are not ok to keep. We listened to some different secrets and then voted with our feet to decide if they were ok to keep.

Church Visit

Thank you to everyone who has offered to help on our visit to the church next Thursday. The children are looking forward to making a Christingle. Please, can anyone with longer hair have it fastened up on Thursday.

A Miracle in Town

Our rehearsals are going well. Please keep practising their lines at home. They all need to be a bit louder!

Our performances are Tuesday 16th December at 9.30am and Wednesday 17th December at 2pm in the junior (KS2) hall.
