Follow the Swallow

In English, we have enjoyed reading this lovely book by Julia Donaldson. We have been working on developing sentence writing this week by building sentences to describe the characters and writing sentences in the first person from a character’s point of view. The children are really starting to understand and apply commas and apostrophes for possession. Well done!

Spelling

We have been learning how to spell different words with the ur/ir/er sound. We also looked at or after w e.g. word, work, world and ear in pearl and learn.

Maths

In maths we have been developing our addition skills through adding tens and ones. Here we are using tens and ones on place value grids.

Hot and Cold Places

We have enjoyed locating hot and cold places on maps and globes again this week. After looking at photographs of Antarctica, hot deserts and rainforests, children drew a hot place and a cold place and labelled their features.

Remembrance Day

On Monday we talked about why people wear poppies and looked at famous artworks depicting poppy fields. Children were given a choice of media including water colour paints, oil pastels and collage materials to produce their own artworks.

The Power of Good

This week is Anti-bullying Week. We began the week by celebrating our individuality by wearing odd socks and enjoying the song Power of Good by CBBC’s Andy and the Odd Socks. For the rest of the week we have been catching children being kind and asking them to record one kind thing they done each day. What a kind and caring group of children we have in Year 2!

Science

This week we have been investigating the properties of different materials. We used the words hard, soft, rough, smooth, rigid, flexible, transparent, opaque and heavy, light.
