Farsley Farfield Primary School

Ready for residential

Good evening,

The last full week in school for both classes has been busy as usual. All the bedding has been brought into school and will be transported up to Gearstones this weekend. Everyone’s cases and bags containing clothes will go up on Monday, along with 5KH on the mini buses. The weather forecast for next week changes every time we check it but it is looking promising. Sun at the start of the week may give way to some unsettled weather towards the end. Just a reminder that blogs will be posted daily, which will include a run down on the day’s activities along with photos. Feel free to leave comments and we will pass them on to the children.

5KH will return on Wednesday by train and will arrive back at New Pudsey station just after 2pm. If any parents are available to help with getting cases back from the station, it would be very much appreciated. 5B will return on the mini buses before the end of the school day on Friday.

Maths

In Maths we have been continuing to look at angles. We have used protractors to measure and draw angles on a straight line and in 2D shapes. This is a difficult skill as accuracy is important.

If your child needs extra practice, watch the following video, which explains how to measure angles up to 180°

English

In English, both classes have completed their diary extracts. They wrote a diary from the point of view of Bilbo Baggins when he was inundated with dwarves at the start of The Hobbit. We were impressed with the creative language used. There was also a focus on using modal verbs (should, would, could etc) and parentheses (brackets, dashes and commas). Tolkien’s writing includes plenty of brackets so reading his work is an excellent way to learn the technique.

Due to the shorter half term and the last week being residential week, several of our curriculum units are running into next half term. The music module is one of those and so the classes’ videos of them performing Look Into The Night will be recorded in a few weeks time.

Have a great weekend (with plenty of sleep for 5KH!)
