Farsley Farfield Primary School

Year 1 – 09.05.25

Phonics

This week we have revised the alternative phonemes / graphemes oa/oe/ow/o-e, oo/ew/ue/u-e and er/ur/ir. We have also practised reading and spelling the tricky words would and could.

English

In English, we have continued with our work on The Gingerbread Man. This week we have focussed on retelling the story. The children thought hard about the sequence of the story and used sentence openers, adjectives and conjunctions in their writing well.

Maths

In maths we started the week looking at arrays. We discussed how an array is made up of rows and columns and that by organising objects into arrays it can make it easier to count how many objects there are altogether.

We finished the week by revising doubles. The children are becoming more confident in identifying doubles to 10. We have enjoyed practising doubles on this online game.

Geography

In Geography this week we have looked at the United Kingdom. We have learnt that the United Kingdom is made up of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We have been naming and locating these on a map of the United Kingdom.

Science

In science we investigated the enquiry question ‘What are the plants of a plant?’. We named the four main parts of a plant and labelled these in our books. We went outside and labelled the parts of a plant we could identify on our school grounds.

Computing

We continued with our animated stories. This week we added animation to our characters to make them move.

PE

We have continued to enjoy our sessions with Brad, a sports coach, on a Thursday morning. This half term we are focussing on our striking and fielding skills.

The Gingerbread Man

The Gingerbread Man has continued to travel around the United Kingdom. This week we have received postcards from Scarborough, London, North Wales and Belfast.

Have a lovely weekend,
