Year 6 23.01.26
Science
We finally finished our evolution stories and have some beautiful examples of work for you to look at.
Here is our gallery with a selection which the children wanted to be on the blog.
English
We have continued our work on our class text: The Arrival, this week. Year 6 have impressed us with their creative ideas and imagination. We tried to make our main character live a life of misery (which she later escapes from) and both classes threw themselves into the challenge: covering her in paper-thin blankets; giving her mouldy porridge and cold slop; and listing chores for her such as cleaning the toilets with a toothbrush! We will continue to work on narrative using this story as our inspiration for a few weeks and hope to share our completed pieces at the end of this half term.
Maths
Algebra
Today we started our Year 6 Algebra unit using the White Rose Maths scheme. Over the next few weeks, children will learn how to use simple letters and symbols to represent numbers, find missing values, and solve straightforward equations. They will also look at number patterns and sequences and learn how to explain the rules behind them. The work is taught in a clear, step-by-step way and builds on what pupils already know, helping them develop confidence and logical thinking as they prepare for secondary school maths. Lots of children are a little nervous about this topic but it is great fun once they realise it’s not too tricky!
Below is the lesson we completed this morning and all of the children did a fabulous job!
