Geography

We are coming to the end of our topic on Natural Disasters and the children this week have been learning about different types of volcano. They produced some creative presentations, posters and websites to explain their research which we were really impressed with.

We have also been completing some work around UK geography and locating different cities, regions, and counties across the UK. The children are developing this knowledge and will continue this learning into next half term.

PSHE

This week, we were delighted to welcome the Road Safety Team into school to work with our children. Through fun, hands-on sessions, the children learned all about how to stay safe near roads, including the important steps of Stop, Look, Listen before crossing. The team also spoke to the children about becoming more independent, especially as many are starting to walk to school on their own. They discussed how to make sensible decisions, stay alert, and be aware of their surroundings. It was a valuable and timely reminder of the importance of road safety and helped the children feel more confident about travelling safely on their own.

English

The children have been working on non-chronological reports about their very own islands and they are wonderful! Next week we will publish them and have some amazing examples to share. We worked hard this week on writing about the discovery of our island and its flora and fauna.

We can’t wait to share these with you next week!

Maths

This week we have been finishing our learning on the four operations. Hopefully children are now mostly confident with the written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Division is still proving a little tricky for some and will be something we continue to do some work on. Below are some reminder videos for multiplication and division. Please note that there are 2 methods for division: long and short.

Have you bought new shoes recently?

Do you have a spare shoe box? We would love for you to send any shoe boxes in as we plan to use them for a DT project later in the year. Thank you!

Reminder

Thank you to those parents and carers who have been able to contribute to our trip to the Royal Armouries next week. We will be going on Thursday 23rd for 6D and Friday 24th for 6J. Children will need to bring a packed lunch with them (no fizzy drinks, nuts or sweets please) and this should ideally be in a carrier bag which is able to be disposed of after they’ve eaten. We will be leaving school promptly so please do make sure you are at school on time.
