English

This week in English we have written our letters as soldiers to family back home telling them about the Christmas Truce. The children worked hard to plan and write a letter full of interesting detail and emotion as well as use some of the language from the time.

History

From Zepplins to Sopwith Camels – this week we looked at the changes brought about in aviation thanks to the war. Year 6 were fascinated to learn that pilots first threw bricks and darts at each other and that planes were so hastily built that they sometimes simply broke apart mid-air. We carried out some research that will continue next week and we will share pictures of our beautiful double-paged spreads next week.

Looking after our planet – live assembly from Antarctica

We were so lucky to be invited to be a part of the FIRST EVER live assembly from Antarctica this week with Robert Swan: polar explorer and ecologist. The children heard about how important it was to look after our planet and make sure we are thinking about the future of regions like Antarctica. Rob shared details of the changes he has observed in his lifetime during his many visits and talked to the children about the 2041 foundation and the work they can do to save the planet. Here is a link to the assembly if you’d like to learn a little more.
