Year 4 News – 9.1.26

Welcome back to a new term in Year 4!

English

The children have really enjoyed starting our new class text, How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. This week, we designed our own islands, inspired by the setting of the story, the Isle of Berk. We made maps of our islands and wrote descriptions to go with our drawings, using expanded noun phrases to describe our islands in detail.

History

Our new class text makes links with our history topics for the next two half terms: The Anglo-Saxons and The Vikings. We started our topic with a surprise invasion from the Anglo-Saxons (otherwise known as Year 5) to help us understand what it would have been like for the people living in Britain following the departure of the Romans. We then learnt about where the Anglo-Saxons came from, why they came and the different kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon Britain.

Maths

In maths this week, we have been learning how to multiply and divide by 10 and 100, using our knowledge of place value to help us.

PSHE

4SL finished off last half term’s PSHE topic on drugs by thinking about patterns of behaviour including habits. The children could think of example of good and bad habits and showed a good understanding of how habits might form and why habits can be difficult to change.

Sam the Sound Man

On Monday we will be having an exciting workshop with Sam ‘the sound man’. Here is a letter with further information about the event.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Sykes, Miss Levett and Mr Nehaul
