Here are some of the things we have been up to this week!

Science

In science, we have been carrying out a range of investigations to find out how sound travels through different materials.

History

Last week in history we used timelines to explore the Anglo-Saxon period. First, we sequenced some events into chronological order. Then we created scaled timelines to gain a better understanding of exactly when the events happened. Finally, we considered which other civilisations would have existed at the same time as the Anglo-Saxons, using concurrent timelines. The children worked well in their groups, made interesting observations and asked thoughtful questions.

This week, we started to think more about what daily life would have been like for Anglo-Saxons. The image below generated lots of fantastic discussion.

English

The children have been working really hard on their dragon descriptions over the last week. They spent some time evaluating how successful their descriptions were by giving feedback to a partner and then had some time to edit and revise their work. It has been really nice seeing the children showing lots of enthusiasm for writing and feeling proud of their finished work.

Maths

In maths we are learning different methods for multiplying and dividing 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. We have looked at using place value counters, part-whole models and column methods (including the bus stop method for division). Continuing to practise quick recall of times tables facts (and the related division facts) will be really helpful when mastering these methods.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
