Year 4 News 20.3.26 – Part 2!
We had so many pictures to share this week, we needed two blog posts!
Skipping Festival
The children from Year 4 who represented Farfield at the skipping festival did a fantastic job on Thursday, with everyone putting in an amazing amount of effort and showing a positive, supportive attitude. The team finished in second place overall, and between them the children earned 4 bronze, 8 silver and 18 gold awards. The team-spirit from Farfield was not unnoticed by the event organisers, who came over to tell us at the end that the positivity from Farfield had ‘radiated’ from our corner of the sports hall. We are really proud of all the children who took part, and all the children across Year 4 for working so hard on their skipping throughout the spring term. What a talented and kind group of children they are.

George Webster Visit
Another highlight of the week was a visit from George Webster, who came to talk to all the children about his new book. The children were really engaged throughout the assembly as George talked about his writing process and shared some of the things that have inspired him. George read from his new book, played a game of ‘George Says’ and even taught us some Makaton! Themes of friendship and celebrating difference ran throughout the assembly, and it was lovely to see lots of children in bright or odd socks to mark World Down Syndrome Day. If you would like to donate to local Down Syndrome charity Sunshine and Smiles, there is a link to the website here.

History
In history this week, we took on the role of Anglo-Saxons trying to find out what made Viking boats (longships) so special. Working in groups, the children took it in turns to spend 10 seconds ‘spying’ on the Viking boats, 10 seconds to sketch what they had seen, and 10 seconds to talk to the rest of the group about what they had seen and give advice about what to look for next. The children worked brilliantly in their groups and managed some excellent sketches in such a short amount of time. The task helped them focus on particular features of the longships and consider why they were so impressive.

Trips to Murton Park
A reminder that our trips to Murton Park are next week (Thursday for 4NL and Friday for 4SL). Children will need to arrive at school at 8:30 on the day of their trip. They should wear warm clothing and bring a coat (and possibly a hat and gloves if the weather is looking cold). All children will need a packed lunch and a water bottle. We aim to return to school at 4:15pm.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
