English
This week in our English lessons we have been building up the skills needed to write an explanation text. We looked at a range of artefacts from the 1960s and discussed what they were used for and how they worked. We had a go at writing captions to match photographs. We then moved on to writing some explanation sentences comparing items from the 1960s with the items we use now focussing on using the correct tense. We are looking forward to writing our explanation texts next week.
Spelling
This week we have been exploring some trickier ways of spelling the or sound in words. We learned that al can make an or sound in words like all, also and walk. We also found out the ar after w makes an or sound e.g. war, warm and wardrobe.
Maths
We have concluded our measurement topic with some tricky problem solving using the four operations. We also looked at home temperature is measured and had a go at reading, recording and comparing this. Please have a go at the activities on Mathletics to consolidate our learning.
History
In our history lesson this week, we took on the role of fashion designers! We had a look at the styles of clothing worn in the 1960s and discussed how different they were to the clothes we wear today before having a go at designing our own outfits inspired by the 1960s trends.

Science
This week we have been looking at seeds. The children looked carefully at the seeds and shared their thoughts with each other. We noticed that they were all very different and some didn’t even look like seeds at all. We then looked at images of the adult plant and matched the seeds.

DT
We have been practising our sewing skills in preparation for when we make our own puppets. the children practised running stitch or over stitch. They all did really well!
