Year 2 News 6.3.26

Reading is always high on our agenda, but this has been a week unlike any other. With Book Buddy visits, Mystery Readers, a brilliant book swap and lots of sharing of stories. World Book Day on Thursday was brilliant; Thank you all for your efforts in making it such an amazing day for the children.

We enjoyed moving around the different classes for activities with different teachers.

Mrs Lace read ‘Omar, the Bees and Me!’. We then decorated an envelope and added wildflower seeds. We hope that you can plant them and watch them grow.

Mrs Wilson read ‘Oi! Frog’. We then created our own rhyme and illustrations for one the pages.

In Year 1, Miss Hardwick was Emilia Earhart and Mrs Galbraith was Frida Kahlo. They took their inspiration from the ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ books. The children enjoyed creating paper aeroplanes and animalitos!

Tinga Tinga Tales

We shared the tale of Why Giraffe has a Long Neck this week. The children enjoyed applying their knowledge of time adverbials, like ‘in the beginning’ and ‘after some time’ as well as choosing right choice adjectives to retell the story. On Wednesday, children chose their favourite Tinga Tinga Tale to retell. It was great fun mixing the classes!

Reading Buddies

Both classes got together with their year 6 Reading Buddies on Monday. The children had a great time creating bookmarks together and talking about their favourite books.

Mystery Readers

We were incredibly excited to welcome our first mystery readers this week! Thank you to Freya’s Mum for entertaining 2MW with the story The Blue Footed Booby.

2La had two mystery readers; Mabel’s mummy Carly with baby brother Rafferty! Thank you for sharing ‘The day the crayons quit’ with us.

We would love to host more Mystery Readers in year 2. If you, or a relation are interested in visiting the classroom to share a book, please get in touch with the class teacher, but remember, it’s a secret!
