Year 2 News 6.2.26
English
After finishing our class text, George’s Marvellous Medicine last week, we decided to write some book reviews. It was clear that the children have genuinely loved this story and this came out in their reviews. We have lots of Roald Dahl fans!
We then went on to look at diary features and first person writing. We read some examples of Florence Nightingale’s diary and practised writing from her point of view. Next week we will use what we’ve learned in history to recount an event in her life.
Spelling
This week we have looked at words with the wr spelling of r and also the common exception words: old, both, only, cold, told etc.
Multiplication
We have started work on multiplication, looking at making and adding equal groups. In these pictures of 2MW you can see 2 equal groups of 6 and 6 equal groups of 2. How else could you organise the 12 children?

Here are some examples of using cubes to show repeated addition:

We have also learned how to write multiplication sentences:

Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale
The children continue to show great enthusiasm for our history topic. This week we have compared the lives of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. In this activity, the children are matching speech bubbles to the correct person and considering if it was said by them or about them.
