English
The children have shown great interest in learning about polar animals and this week we have been researching ready to write our own non-chronological reports. We have explored different sources of information including non-fiction texts and the internet.

Spelling
This week in spelling, we learned that c makes a s sound when followed by a y, i or e. Sometime we call this soft c. We have also learned the words even, every and everybody.
Maths
In maths this week, we have started a new topic all about shape. We started by naming some common 2D and 3D shapes. We have then counted sides and vertices (corners) on 2D shapes.
Geography
As we continued to learn about Polar regions this week, we found out all about Churchill in Canada, a small town where humans and polar bears live in close proximity. Children thought about what it would be like to visit Churchill and worked in groups to make some posters to advertise holidays there.
History
The children found out about the first expeditions to Antarctica and the race to be the first to the South Pole. After a number of unsuccessful expeditions, in 1912, Robert Scott finally reached the South Pole with his team, only to be disappointed when he got there. Can you remember what happened?
Assembly- Live from Antarctica
In a special assembly this morning, children watched a ‘live’ video link from Antarctica. Polar explorer Robert Swan answered questions and explained why Antarctica is so special. You can watch it again here:
PSHE
This week we have talked about how to be a good friend. What does it feel like to be left out and what can you do if someone is feeling lonely or left out? We used our magic words for making friends.

Mindfulness
To ensure that we are ready for learning, we have been building in activities that support children to find ways to focus and calm their bodies, particularly after exciting or energetic activities. One of the ways we do this is through doodling! We have particularly enjoyed drawing snowflakes this week. Have a go at the designs below. How do you feel after doodling?
