Traditional Tales

We had fun writing alternative versions of The Little Red Hen this week. We have stories featuring mighty dragons, wiggly tadpoles and slippery snakes, set in dark gloomy caves, busy cities and on volcanoes! Children have been working on including adjectives and extending sentences using conjunctions. Children have also been learning how to use commas in lists this week.

Spellings

This week we have been looking at words with the oi/oy sound and also ow/ou (including the homophones flour/flower. It is fantastic to see so many children engaging with their spelling homework tasks. Well done.

Walking to Farsley Library

After carefully mapping our route, year 2 walked to Farsley Library. We took note of the human and physical features we saw on our journey which included different types of houses, shops, bus stops, a church, a car park, a hill and of course the library! The children had a great time exploring the great range of books on offer and we borrowed some to read together at school. We encourage all families to use the library. Let us know if your children have enjoyed visiting with you since our trip! Thank you again to the parents who came with us.

Maths

In maths this week we have been using number bonds. The children have worked hard to learn their bonds to 10 which has then helped them to apply number bonds to 20 and multiples of 10 to 100.

PSHE/English

We talked about hand hygiene in our PSHE lessons this week. Children learned the importance of when and how to wash your hands. We then used our knowledge of instructions to write some simple instructions for how to wash your hands. They did a super job of using time words, bossy verbs and conjunctions in their writing.

Art

The children have completed some fruit sketches this week. They are really working hard on developing their observational skills.
