Farsley Farfield Primary School

This Week in Year 4

English

This half term in English we are exploring legends. We have read the stories of King Arthur and Robin Hood, considering how they are similar and different and working out what the features of legends are. We used a story mountain to think about how stories, including legends, are structured. We then thought more about the main characters of the stories and how we can use expanded noun phrases to create vivid descriptions.

Maths

In maths, we have started the first of two units on multiplication and division. This week we have been focusing on the 3 and 6 times tables, making connections between the two times tables and using our multiplication facts to work out division facts.

Reading Buddies

Over the last two weeks, both Year 4 classes have met with their new Reception reading buddies. It was lovely to see the older children reading and chatting with the younger children.

Anti-bullying week

The theme of this year’s anti-bullying week was ‘Power for Good’. We started off with our odd socks day, celebrating the fact that we are all different and unique. We then thought about our own powers, and how we can use our powers to make sure we are upstanders, rather than bystanders, speaking out and supporting others. The children then made some fantastic posters.

Letters

Today, your child should have brought home a letter about our upcoming visits to Lincoln Green Mosque. You can also view the letter here. Please could permission slips be signed and returned next week.
