Farsley Farfield Primary School

This week in Year 4

How do fireworks explode?

In English this week, we have been finding out all about fireworks and how they work. We have used this information to start writing explanation texts. The children have done some excellent research and are impressing us with their use of language.

Meet Rambashi

In guided reading this week, 4SL met the character of Rambashi. They read the text carefully to look for clues that tell us what Rambashi looks like, and did some fantastic drawings of the character using this evidence.

Battleships!

Last week in geography our focus was on cities of the UK. To consolidate this learning, we played a game of Battleships, where we had to find the cities that were plotted on our partner’s map. It was helpful if we knew where the capital cities were located. The children worked very well in pairs to play this game.

Maths

We have started looking at rounding numbers in maths. Today’s focus was rounding to the nearest 10. If you would like to do some more practice with this at home, this video might be helpful:

Homework

It has been great seeing children improve their scores on their weekly times tables checks. Children will move onto the next sheet once they have answered all 20 questions in 1 minute 30 seconds.

A reminder that children bring the following home with them each week:

  • Spelling sheet
  • Times tables sheet

Children should also be reading and having their reading records signed five times each week. This week, Year 4’s Extreme Reading scores were particularly disappointing and considerably lower than the rest of the school. Please remind your child to have their reading record out to be signed when they are reading at home. Thank you to those families who are already doing this.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Sykes, Miss Levett and Mr Nehaul
