Skipping, Switches and Super Writing
Skipping
This week in Year 4 we were visited by Adele from skipping school, who led a very energetic session of skipping for each class. We went through some of the skips that we had learnt previously in Year 2 and tried some tricky new skips including the cross over and the pretzel. We also had a go at face to face skipping in pairs. The children showed excellent enthusiasm and resilience when trying the different skips. We will be practising the skills we have learnt over the next few months, ready for a skipping festival, where some members of Year 4 will be chosen to compete against other schools. More details about the festival will be shared closer to the time.

Science
We had fun exploring switches in our science lessons this week, investigating how switches work and making our own simple switches.

Guided Reading
We are continuing to enjoy The Firework Maker’s Daughter. The children have been taking part in drama activities including reader’s theatre and hotseating to support with their fluency and their understanding of the story and characters.

English
Continuing our learning about perspective, the children produced some fantastic writing this week from the point of view of the Mona Lisa. The children did a super job of describing what they could see and how they felt. Some children thought the Mona Lisa would enjoy being admired by thousands of visitors, while others thought she might feel lonely or bored. We had some brilliant discussions and the children worked really hard on their written pieces.

Maths
In maths we have been working on our column methods for addition, including when more than one exchange is required. This video explains how the method works.
Homework
- Times tables sheet (and TT Rockstars)
- Spelling sheet
- Reading 5 x per week
Road Safety
A reminder that we will be taking part in some road safety activities next Thursday. If you have not already signed a permission slip for your child to take part in the pedestrian training session, please speak to a member of the Year 4 team.
Thank you to those parents who were able to attend our harvest assembly this morning. The display of food grown on our school farm was incredibly impressive.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Mrs Sykes, Miss Levett and Mr Nehaul
