Phonics

In phonics this week we have learnt the new phonemes – sh, th, ng and nk. Our new hard to read and spell word is push.

Thank you to those who came to watch our phonics live sessions this week. We hope you found them useful! If you would like to come along we still have some spaces left for Tuesday 13th January and Thursday 15th January. Please speak to your child’s class teacher to book your place.

Maths

This week in Maths the children have enjoyed setting up a birthday party for the dolls/ teddy bears. They have developed a deeper understanding of the terms equal, more than and fewer than. They have described how many objects are in a set and practised their counting skills too.

Understanding the world

In our understanding the world lesson, we looked at what it means to belong to different faith communities. We talked about what it means to go to a church, a mosque, a temple, and a gurdwara, and what people do there. We discovered that a faith community is like a big family and that people from all faiths go to their special building to pray and worship. We also found that lots of faith communities share a special meal together. We had a class treat inspired by the Sikh tradition of langar.

Clay owls, paintings, pictures

The children have looked carefully at the features of an owl and created some amazing clay sculptures, paintings, and crayon pictures.

Christmas show

We have started rehearsing for our Christmas show “The Nativity.” The costume letter and lines for children with speaking parts have gone home today. We are able to provide the costumes for all of the traditional nativity characters. For a new type of character we require four waistcoats. If you already have a blue, grey, or black children’s waistcoat at home, would you mind lending it us for our show?

Everything else…

Have a lovely weekend.
