Reception News – 19/9/25

Phonics

This week we have started teaching the first letter sounds – s, a, t, p. The children have been introduced to the letter sound and the rhyme we say to help us write the grapheme. It is really important that the children learn the correct prounciation for each letter. The video below will help guide you.

The children have been practising forming the letters in their new workbooks.

Busy Bee books

The children all have a ‘Busy Bee’ book. Throughout the year they will draw and write sentences in this book. This week they all drew a picture of themselves and wrote their name.

Music

In music this week we have started to learn a new song called ‘Everyone it’s Music Time’. We learned the names of lots of instruments and then we had the chance to play them. The children did well looking at the conductor to know whether or not to start or stop playing.

Disco Dough

The children are enjoying their daily Dough Disco sessions. Children need to have strong muscles in their hands to enable them to write effectively. Dough Disco finger exercises are fun and help improve fine motor control and gross motor skills.

PE

We had lots of fun in our first PE lesson. This half-term, we are exploring fundamental movement skills. The children will learn how to travel at different speeds and begin to understand how to be spatially aware. This week, we played some fun movement games.

Home learning books

The children have been given their home learning book. Please bring this back to school every Thursday. This week we would like the children to draw a picture of their family. We would also like the children to bring in a family photo to talk about and display on our classroom wall. We can print photographs at school, please email them to us.

Everything else…

Have a lovely weekend. See you Monday
