Reception News – 16.5.25
Phonics
This week we have had a go at writing the words buses, bug, lunch and charm. We also practised saying and writing the sentence Look at the little bug. The tricky word was do.
Reading at home
Please keep hearing your child read and write a comment in their reading record. By the end of Reception, children are expected to be reading red books and moving onto yellow books. Thank you for all your support with phonics and reading.
Maths
The children have continued to learn about number bonds. We began by looking at the composition of the numbers 6 to 9 using the ‘5 and a bit’ structure. Then we explored how 10 can be composed.

The children enjoyed singing this song. Click here to sing it at home.
Beautiful Flowers
The children have been busy painting flowers to display on a standing stone at the Farsley Festival, which is on the 21st June in Hainsworth Park.

The festival organisers would also like lots of nature photographs. Please see the poster below for more details.
Understanding the World – Leeds
The children have looked at comparing Farsley Town Street with Leeds City Centre. The children noticed there were a lot more buildings, some a lot taller, and not very much green space. We looked at maps of each place, and there are a lot more roads in Leeds City Centre. We have learnt that Leeds is a city and it is urban. The children are beginning to understand that urban describes a place which is very busy with lots of buildings and people. The children have drawn some great maps to represent Leeds City Centre.

They also enjoyed listening to this great story.
Secret Readers
Thank you to this week’s Secret Readers. Please let us know if you’d like to come and read to the class. They love it!

Mystery Fruit!
Our fruit this week was a pomegranate from South Africa. The children enjoyed eating it.

One of our Focus Children asked to make fruit kebabs. The children had fun chopping, peeling and eating the fruit!

Everything Else…

Special Mention Assembly
As part of the transition to Year 1 the children are now going to Special Mention assembly every Thursday. Each week, children are chosen to receive a certificate and they go out to the front for everyone to celebrate their super work. Children can also bring in sports medals, swimming certificates, trophies etc… to share in the assembly.

Have a lovely weekend.
