Phonics

During our phonics sessions, the children used their listening ears to hear the different words I blended orally. We revisited The Colour Monster story, and I told a silly story featuring the different emotion monsters. Throughout the story, I segmented some words aloud, and the children shouted out the corresponding words. Once the children became experts, we collected several classroom objects. I then segmented a word orally, and the children had to identify which object it was. They are amazing at this.

Words

This week, we have looked at the words ‘large’ and ‘last’.

Maths

This week, the children focused on the numbers 0-5. We sang songs featuring numbers and used our fingers to represent each number in the song. We also showed given amounts in different ways.

Children’s Mental Health Week

The theme for this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is ‘This Is My Place.’ This theme highlights the importance of feeling connected to various aspects of our lives, like our family, school, and group of friends. These joyful moments contribute to our sense of belonging, making us feel valued and accepted. When we have a sense of belonging, we experience happiness, safety, and a readiness to learn and play. As a class, we have created some amazing art pieces that represent where we feel we belong. We also discussed the similarities and differences in our belonging maps, helping us understand our similarities and differences.

Everything else

Despite it being a shorter week, we were able to accomplish a lot. We recorded the children singing “The Three Little Pigs” song. We focused on emotions by coloring emotion dots, reading stories, and watching videos. We also got messy with moon sand, played with trains and tracks, spent some time in the hall, and used block paints.
