Growth Mindsets
This half term, Mrs Fisher and Mr Wilkinson will be leading a series of assemblies focussing on the brain and the importance of having a ‘growth mindset’. This is crucial to the school’s work and it would be very helpful if parents, too, adopted a ‘growth mindset’ attitude and choice of language when discussing school work with their children. A classic error that parents might make is to reassure a child struggling with maths that “I couldn’t do maths at school either.” In effect, this creates a ‘fixed mindset’ that is difficult to shift. We also want parents to join with us in really valuing and learning from errors and mistakes.
There is a host of explanatory material related to this on a new Growth Mindset blog being run by the school and this will grow over the coming months: http://ffgrowthmindset.primaryblogger.co.uk/ There is now a permanent link to this blog from the class blog section of this website.
Look out for information later in the term about sessions for parents around this issue.

Earlier on this year I started reading your blog on growth mindset and to be honest was blown away! It is amazing. I wanted to start using some of the ideas and videos from the blog but I have noticed you can no longer access the blog. Do you have any plans to put it back on?
Many thanks.
I am glad you are enjoying it. It had a problem but is partially fixed now.
