Final Week of the First Half Term

The longest half term of the year is finally over and the children will have a well deserved rest. We have been working hard up to the final day, with English stories to complete and Maths work to finish. The time available has been so constricted that we haven’t had time to video the final version of Livin’ on a Prayer in our Music lessons. We will make sure that this classic is given due attention the first week back.

English

This week, the classes have been writing their own version of a Greek Myth. It was a chance for imaginations to shine and we have had some great stories, involving a variety of monsters and heros as a result. One of the targets was included speech as a way to advance the story. This is a difficult technique so we first wrote the story the story without any speech sentences, then replaced one or two of the action sentence with dialogue.

History

5K completed the building of their Greek temples this week. They then tested how much weight they held to determine the quality of the construction. The strongest one held a massive 2.9kg. Photos of the testing can be seen here.

Maths

Our unit on multiplication has continued this week with us looking at factors, multiples, squared and cubed numbers. An important concept is multiples of 10, 100 and 1000. Watch the video below to help your child with this.

Back page news – Football

In sports news, pressure is building on U10s football coach Mr Beevers after a third straight defeat, this time away at Horsforth Newlaithes. When asked to comment on his position, the beleagured looking boss claimed that the strength in depth was actually working against his team. “We have so many good players vying for a place in the team, that it’s hard to maintain a settled side. We have used eighteen players over three games and everyone has impressed,” he claimed. “The board has backed me and the chairman gave me a vote of confidence yesterday, so I am happy that the lads will turn the season around. We are looking to have a good cup run, with a match scheduled sometime before Christmas,” he added.

The game against Newlaithes started brightly enough, with an early goal from Archie, his 5th in three games, but then the chances dried up and the downhill advantage was lost when two quick goals gave the home team a half time lead. The second half was played at a higher tempo but even a formation change did not result in a goal for Farsley. The final score of 4-1 was flattering to the home team in gterms of possession although it could have been worse, but for the heroics of Eesher in goal.

When asked who might have the football knowledge to take the team forward, Mr Harris said that he was looking at Cameron and Mrs Hawkhead as a joint coaching team replacement as he gets them off the roof and she good at ordering cheap new ones from YPO.

Have a lovely half term break.
