Electric Editing!
English
In our English lessons this week, we have primarily been focusing on how to effectively edit our work. We started by looking at different strategies that can be used to identify and correct errors as well as make improvements to what has already been written. To do this, we initially used an example text as we find it can quite often be easier to edit another person’s work, rather than your own. Once we had these strategies in place, the children used them to edit their extended writing on fireworks. Some found this easier than others, but all of the children showed great focus throughout these sessions. Towards the end of the week, we began a new unit of work on perspective. We started with a familiar tale (Jack and the Beanstalk), thinking about how the story would be presented if it was told by the Giant, rather than Jack. In the coming weeks, we will expand on this idea of changing perspectives and how this can impact our writing.

Science
In our Science lessons, we have been exploring how circuits actually work. To make sense of this concept, the children became the circuit, with some acting as components such as a lightbulb or cell and others becoming elecrtons flowing through the wires. The children all got really stuck in with this human model and were then able to transfer what they had learnt into an annotated diagram in their books.

Geography
In our Geography lessons, we have been exploring the physical features of the UK. We began by defining physical features as those that are naturally occuring, though this did spark some interesting conversations about certain plants or animals. Once we had a clear understanding of what this meant, we began to explore prominent features of the UK, such as mountain ranges, peaks and rivers. The children showed an excellent understanding of how to use atlases to idetify these features and were able to complete their work confidently.
Other News
We had much improved reading scores in both classes this week – thank you to all children and adults who supported them in their reading! Now that we have proven we can do it, we would like to see this upward trend continue in the coming weeks.
We also sent out a letter this week regarding some upcoming work on road safety. We have already had many of these permission slips returned (thank you!) but if you haven’t seen the letter or the email that followed it, please do get in touch as it is essential we recieve all slips prior to the workshop, which takes place on Thursday 16th October.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Levett, Mrs Sykes and Mr Nehaul
