Building up

Maths

Maths has continued with fractions and this week we have been adding and subtracting them. We first did this when the denominators were the same but then moved on to fractions with different denominators. In order to do this, we have had to use our learning of equivalent fractions, which took place a couple of weeks ago. Below is a video that will help when the answer is greater than 1.

English

In English, we have been writing our explanation text of how Curiosity landed on Mars, using relative clauses and causal conjunctions.

We took our information from our Guided Reading book Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover and from a video, which you can see below.

DT

5B have started their DT project of building a moving Mars rover using wood and electrical componants. We have made the frame by sawing the square section wood and using glue guns to attach the pieces together. Due to the hazadous nature of the equipment and the fact that the children need supervising, there are only a few photos of them working. More will be taken when we move to the next stage of construction.

Xmas performance

Rehearsals are going well and most of the play has been performed without using scripts. We are starting to use the costumes and props and will have a full dress rehearsal on the 13th December.

Next Week

Next week, both classes will be walking down into the village centre to visit some of the listed buildings and Springfield Mills, where we will be discovering some of its history. Letters have been sent home to remind everyone that warm clothing is needed. We will be doing the walks in the morning and will be back in plenty of time for lunch.

Have a lovely weekend
