A New Term Begins!

Despite only having a three day week, the children have been hard at work with their learning. In Maths, we have been finishing our work on fractions, focusing specifically on how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. Next week, we will start exploring the concept of decimals and I am certain that our fractions knowledge will come in very handy!

In our geography lessons this term, we are going to be making some comparisons between Leeds and Burnsall. We started by focusing on the human and physical features that could be found in Leeds and it was lovely to see that the children remembered these terms and their meanings from our Autumn topic on America. The children made great use of Google Earth (particularly the 3D aspect) to explore the colours, shapes and features they could see. We also explored how this changed the more we zoomed out to the county, country and continent levels.

In computing, we began to explore the concept of stop motion animation through the medium of flip books. We soon found that the most important detail to get right was making sure that there were only slight differences between the images that we were drawing. By doing this, our final animations were much smoother (once we got over the hurdle of actually flipping them!) and by the end of the lesson we had some really fantastic examples! In the coming lessons, we will continue to develop this understanding to be able to eventually create our own stop motion animations.

In French, 4SN finished off their weather topic by answering the question ‘Quel temps fait-il?’ Which different types of weather can you spot in this video?

This week, we have provided both spelling and maths homework, which is due in on Wednesday 30th April. As always, the children can speak with their teachers on either Monday or Tuesday if they are finding any of the work tricky.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Miss Levett, Mrs Sykes and Mrs Newsome.
