World book day and other fun in Year 5
Hi all,
We had another action packed week last week.
Thursday was World Book Day and we had losts of fun. The children dressed up in a mixture of ways: as book characters, jobs and hobbies.

Last week we had fun in Science separating materials. Click on the link to see photos. The children had to separate a range of rice, flour, salt, paper clips, pasta and dried peas, using a range of seives, colanders, magnets and filter papers.
Both classes have been practising for an interschool debating competition that we have entered. The first heat will take place on the morning of Wednesday 18th March at Southroyd School. We have already been impressed by the children so far, who have been writing excellent persuasive speeches and gaining confidence when speaking to an audience. Mr Beevers and I have the difficult job of choosing three children from each class to take part. We will choose our debating teams by Thursday next week. The motion is: School uniform should be optional. 5K will be proposing this motion and 5B will be opposing.
In Maths we have been learning about decimal place value up to thousandths.
See you next week!
Mrs Kroon and Mr Beevers.
