Farsley Farfield Primary School

Oh yes we did!

Happy New Year to everyone! Even though it’s been a 4-day week, it’s been a busy one full of new learning and an exciting trip!

Maths
We are continuing with our unit on multiplying and dividing. This week we’ve been working on the 3 and 4 times tables. We began the week by learning to use multiples of 3 to answer a range of problem questions. We then introduced the 4 times tables. We looked at the multiples of the 4 times tables and used this to match different calculations to visual representations. We then learned more about grouping and sharing, and used maths apparatus and number lines to work out the answer to different division questions. Children can use TT Rockstar to support their recall of the times tables.

English
Our writing unit this term is all about traditional tales. We shared our favourite traditional tales and learned more about the meaning of a moral. Children enjoyed watching a video of The Three Little Pigs, followed by a brilliant role-play to re-tell the story and creating a story map. We then introduced our new class text, ‘The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.’ Alexander T. Wolf (you can call him Al) shared his perspective on this story, and children loved reading the witness statements from characters such as Shrek and Little Red Riding Hood. We ended the week with classes voting on whether they believed the story and whether the wolf was guilty!

Science
This term is all about forces! Children enjoyed finding different objects and thinking more deeply about the force that’s used to move them. After collecting different objects in the classroom, children drew and labelled them and had a go at moving them using the push, pull, twist, and turn forces.

This was the highlight of the week for Year 3! As part of our traditional tale unit in English, we went to the Alhambra Theatre to watch Snow White! Children loved watching and taking part in the show, especially cheering for Snow White and booing the evil queen! Some of the favourite parts mentioned included a helicopter (Yes, a helicopter!) onstage and the Queen’s very evil laugh! During 3BK’s visit, some of the children were chosen to go onstage. Year 3 were brilliant representatives for our school. Thank you to all parent volunteers who supported us with this visit. We hope you had a wonderful time!
