English

This week the children have begun to learn the techniques of persuasion. We will be writing in role as a character from our text War Horse over the next few sessions and this week played around with language and grammar in order to get Mrs Dobkin and Miss Jones to extend break by 5 minutes using a website called padlet.

Have a look at our padlet and see whether you would have been persuaded.

History

This week we have begun our topic on the Great War. Children learned about the origins of WW1 and we had some amazing discussions linked to current world events. This is a complicated but fascinating topic and we were proud of the way in which the children responded. The children responded well to this tricky concept and next week we will be moving on to learning about life in the trenches.

PSHE

This week, we have been taking part in Anti-Bullying Week, exploring the important theme of “The Power of Good.” On Monday, the children watched a live assembly that helped them understand what bullying is and how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Afterwards, they created their own anti-bullying posters, sharing ideas on how to stand up to bullying and support others.

We also focused on online bullying, which is becoming increasingly common as children spend more time using technology. Together, we discussed the different ways online bullying can happen—such as through mean messages, exclusion from group chats, or unkind posts—and, most importantly, what to do if it happens to them. The children talked about practical steps they can take, like blocking or reporting the person involved, taking screenshots as evidence, talking to a trusted adult, and avoiding replying to hurtful messages.

Throughout the week, the children have shown great understanding and empathy, learning how their positive actions can help create a kinder, safer community both in school and online.

Purple Mash have produced a parent guide called ‘Parenting in a Digital World’ which we have attached below.

Homework

This week, children have been given their CPG SATs revision books. We will be assigning pages each week for them to complete at home. They should have 2 white books, which is where they complete the work set. They will then have a purple English revision guide and a brown/red Maths guide. These are to help with the concepts and guide them through the learning. These guides will need to be returned to school after SATs are completed.
